Bleeding Vampire Bitten Cupcakes

October is finally here. This is my favorite time of the year. The weather is fantastic, the leaves are changing color, pumpkins and apples are in season, and in my opinion the best part is Halloween is coming!!! It is my favorite holiday and it is never to earlier to start baking creepy treats. So to start the Halloween season off right, I give you Bleeding Vampire Bitten Cupcakes.

On a fun side note, I had these "bloody" cupcake liners I have been dying to use. They looked awesome with the bloody vampire bite!

Cupcakes (24):
1 package of white or vanilla cake mix

Vanilla Frosting: 
2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature 
5 c. confectioners sugar 
1 Tbsp. vanilla extract 
1 to 2 Tbsp. milk 

Vampire Bite: 
1 skewer

1. Preheat over to 350 degrees.
2. Place cupcake liners in the cupcake pans. 

3. Follow directions on the back of the box to make cupcakes.
4. Divide up the batter between the 24 cupcake liners. 

5. Bake for roughly 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the top of the cupcake comes out clean.

6. Remove cupcakes from pan and let completely cool.

7. In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy, about 1 minute. 

8. Add the confectioners' sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating until smooth after each addition. 

9. Add the vanilla and 1 tablespoon milk. Beat at high speed until fluffy. Add an additional 1 tablespoon milk if the icing is still a little dry.

Vampire Bite:
10. After frosting the cupcakes, dip the skewer in the red dye 

11. Poke to holes into the cupcakes. Dab a little dye next to the hole on to the cupcakes to look like dripping blood.
12. Stuff face!
