I have always enjoyed playing in the kitchen for as long as I can remember. However, it was my interest in astronomy that got me into baking oddly enough. For years, my family would attend the Annual Star-B-Q at Fremont Peak Observatory in California. This allowed amateur astronomers all over the area to bring their telescopes to the mountain, camp, and enjoy the night sky. There was guest speakers, a pot luck BBQ, and my favorite part of the BBQ, the Astronomical-Gastronomical contest. Each person would submit a space-themed dish, and first place won a prize. I won first place from my Arecibo Observatory cake with suspended graham cracker receiver.
Oh my goodness, the pants...well, I am glad to report that other than the pants, I have not changed much. The cooking and baking took a seat on the back burner until I started graduate school at the University of Florida. I am working towards my Ph.D in aerospace engineering and became a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). I was the social event coordinator where once a month I would organize some little event that would allow members to interact and hopefully recruit new members. Themed cupcake decorating became very popular very quickly. And my lab buddies would always get the left overs...that became very popular too.
I started this blog in 2010 as a way to keep track of my cupcake decorating and modified recipes. It became popular with my lab mates and I am now trying to make this regularly updated blog with yummy, easy recipes, fun kitchen products, and funny cooking experiences that hopefully I am not the only one having.
Other things about me...my favorite color is orange and I hate mint. I have a small obsession with anything pumpkin related which is always amplified during my favorite holiday season, Halloween. My cat's name is Toast.
Bottom line, I am not a photographer nor a writer, but I stand by the recipes. Give them a try.
